Session: Self-Service BI – Empowering Users and Enabling IT Oversight
Abstract: Microsoft’s goal is to empower business users to create and share rich, powerful BI solutions through familiar applications in Microsoft Office while empowering IT to efficiently monitor the BI infrastructure by using Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 and Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010. This session will review the self-service BI capabilities currently available with SQL Server 2008 R2 and SharePoint 2010 as well as what’s coming with SQL Server 2012. Key topics will include Analysis Services, Excel and Excel Services, Report Builder, Power Pivot and Power View.
Speaker: Frank Wiemer is a Data Platform Technology Specialist for Microsoft. He has been working in IT since 1988 when he joined Arthur Andersen’s consulting division. From 1991 to 1998, he developed software solutions for the retail industry for STS Systems in Montreal. He joined Microsoft Consulting Services in 1998 focusing on application development scenarios with COM+, .NET and BizTalk. In 2002, he move to Microsoft’s sales team as a technology specialist helping large enterprise customers evaluate and adopt the Microsoft solutions to meet their business needs. He currently focuses on positioning Microsoft’s data platform solutions, primarily SQL Server as well as BizTalk.
